With the arrival of Fay, football may not be on the minds of many. But for the University of Central Florida Knights, the two are actually going hand-in-hand.
Anybody who knows what it's like to drive by the UCF campus at this time of year knows that seeing the UCF football fields is a strange site. You can actually see through the fences and onto the UCF football fields. The fences are typically covered in tarps, but the tarps were removed by the UCF staff to relieve some of the stress put on these fences by the storms over the next couple of days.
The field goals posts have also been tipped on their sides. The field goal posts actually tipped over earlier in August after an afternoon thunderstorm.
This time of year, the UCF football team couldn't be more grateful for their indoor practice facility.
“With the storms, safety is the most important thing and whether it's Tuesday and Wednesday or just Tuesday, thank God we have a place to come inside so we'll have some time tomorrow morning to make some decisions based on the weather,” said George O’Leary, UCF’s head coach.
“We'll know more about it tonight where the storm will hit and things like that, but I'm just hoping and praying safety, not just us, but everybody,” said Sha’reff Rashad, a defensive back.
“I have family over in Tampa,” said Joe Weatherford. “I might go give them a call and see how things are going over there, but hopefully this thing passes so we can get back to practice.”
Rain or shine, Fay or faint winds, UCF will be able to resume practice on Tuesday inside the Nicholson Field House.
